Biofertilizers
'Biofertilizer' is a substance which contains living microorganisms which, when applied to seed, plant surfaces, or soil, colonizes the rhizosphere (roots), rhizoplane (soil) or the interior of the plant (endosymbiotic) and promotes growth by increasing the supply or availability of primary nutrients to the host plant. Nitrogen biofertilizers add nitrogen through fixation of atmospheric nitrogen N2 and stimulating plant growth through increasing the surface adsorption area of the roots as well as stimulating root growth. The use of biofertilizers will reduce the need for chemical fertilizers and pesticides while enhancing the sustainability and health of soil. Their use has been firmly proved as a excellent method for sustainable agriculture that produces positive results for the sustainability of soil, health of crops as well as the surrounding ecosystem. In addition, biofertilizers are more cost effective than chemical fertilizers. |
